- Access to qualified and experienced counsellors/psychotherapists
- Sessions in the privacy of your own home or office
- No need to drive to and from an office
- No need to get a baby-sitter if you have young children
- No need to sit in a waiting room with others
It is important to recognize that distance counselling has its limitations and may not be the right choice in every situation, including the following:
- You are suicidal or in a safety crisis
- Your internet connection is weak and unstable, or is not private or secure
- You do not have access to a private and interruption-free setting
- If you have depressive or anxious feelings that are severe and chronic and are not being treated by a medical professional
- If you have a serious substance abuse issue or eating disorder, have been sexually abused and want to address the abuse in counselling, you sometimes lose touch with what is real or not, or have severe post-traumatic stress issues
Please note: If you are already seeing a counsellor, your online counsellor may wish to speak to your counsellor to assess if there are areas of duplication.
