Grief has no timeline and no single shape. It can come in waves, quiet for a while and then return without warning, or settle into a heaviness that touches everything. Whatever you’ve lost — a person, a relationship, a future you’d counted on — your grief is your own, and you don’t have to carry it by yourself. At GreenValley Counselling Services in Kitchener-Waterloo, we offer grief counselling that gives you room to feel what you feel, at your own pace, with someone alongside you.
There’s no right way to grieve, and no feeling that doesn’t belong. Grief can surface as:
Grief isn’t only about death. People come grieving a marriage, a pregnancy, a beloved pet, their health, or a life they’d expected to have. Whatever the loss, your grief deserves space.
Grief counselling isn’t about “getting over” a loss or being fixed. Loss changes us, and healing isn’t a return to how things were — it’s finding a way to carry the loss and live fully alongside it. Our role isn’t to take your pain away or move you through stages on a schedule; it’s to walk alongside you, to be present to what you’re feeling, and to help you find your own footing amid the waves. You’re the one who leads — we follow, at your pace. Sometimes that means talking things through; sometimes it means simply not having to be okay for an hour.
Loss by suicide carries its own weight. Alongside the grief itself there is often shock, guilt, unanswerable questions, and a silence from the people around you that can leave you feeling alone in it. This kind of loss deserves support from someone who understands what makes it different.
Inge Packull, Registered Social Worker, works with people grieving a death by suicide. She sees clients virtually throughout Ontario, including Kitchener-Waterloo, and in person at our Cambridge office.

Children and teens grieve too, but rarely the way adults do. A child may seem fine one moment and distraught the next, or express loss through play, behaviour, or physical complaints rather than words. Teens may withdraw, or carry their grief privately. Younger children especially often don’t have the language for what they’re feeling — so we meet them where they are, through play and creative expression, helping them process loss in the ways that come naturally to them. Throughout, we keep you informed as a parent and offer practical ways to support your child’s grieving at home.
Getting started begins with a quick conversation with one of our client care coordinators, who will listen to what you’re looking for and match you with a therapist who fits. From there you can book a session directly, or arrange a free introductory call first — whichever feels more comfortable. Early on, your therapist will take a little history and give you space to talk about your loss and how you’re carrying it. There’s no agenda you have to keep to and no right way to grieve — the work follows you, gently and at your own pace.
Here’s a look at the space you’d be coming to at our Kitchener office.
There isn’t. Some people come in the first raw weeks, others months or years later when grief resurfaces or begins to feel stuck. Whenever you reach out is the right time for you.
Yes. Loss to suicide carries its own complexities — shock, guilt, unanswered questions, and often a sense of isolation. One of our therapists has particular experience walking alongside people through this kind of grief.
Almost certainly. Grief holds far more than sadness — anger, numbness, guilt, relief, and moments of feeling fine can all belong to it. Much of grief counselling is simply hearing that what you’re experiencing makes sense.
Yes. Children and teens grieve differently, often through play and behaviour rather than words, and we offer support designed for how young people actually process loss. We keep you informed as a parent and give you ways to support your child at home.
Sessions start at $170, and many extended health plans cover therapy. It’s worth checking your coverage.
Grief is one of the heaviest things we carry, and it helps to have someone alongside you. When you’re ready, a short conversation with one of our client care coordinators is all it takes to get started — they’ll listen to what you’re looking for and match you with the right therapist.
