DAY & EVENING, IN-PERSON & VIRTUAL
Some things are hard to untangle on your own. Individual counselling gives you a dedicated space to do it — confidential, unrushed, and centred entirely on you, whether you’re working through anxiety, low mood, a difficult chapter, grief, or something harder to put into words. At GreenValley Counselling Services in Cambridge, we offer one-on-one therapy for adults, drawing on real clinical depth and shaped around what you need.
People come to individual therapy for all kinds of reasons — some clear, some harder to name. You might find it helpful if you’re dealing with:
You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to benefit from therapy. Wanting to understand yourself better, or simply wanting support, is reason enough.
There’s no single right way to do therapy, because there’s no single kind of person who comes to it. Our Cambridge therapists draw on a range of evidence-based approaches — including CBT, DBT-informed skills, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, and more — and adapt them to you rather than fitting you to a method. Some people want practical tools and strategies; others want to understand the deeper roots of a pattern; many want both. We’ll find the approach that works for you.
If what brings you in is more specific, we also have focused support for anxiety, depression, and trauma — and we can help you figure out where to start.
Getting started begins with a quick conversation with one of our client care coordinators, who will listen to what you’re looking for and match you with a therapist who fits. From there you can book a session directly, or arrange a free introductory call first — whichever feels more comfortable. Your first sessions are about understanding what brought you in and what you’d like to be different; from there, the work is collaborative and paced to you.
There’s no shared waiting room at our Cambridge office. You’ll come up to the hall outside our office door, where there’s seating, and your therapist will meet you at your appointment time. It’s a quieter arrival than a clinic waiting area — the hall is shared with the other offices in the building, so you may occasionally pass someone, but you won’t be sitting in a room full of other clients.
Here’s a short video of the walk up from the front door to one of our upstairs offices.
If something has been weighing on you and hasn’t eased on its own, or a pattern keeps resurfacing, counselling can help — you don’t need a diagnosis or a breaking point to justify it. A short conversation with our client care coordinators can help you weigh it up.
Mostly conversation. Your therapist will ask about what’s brought you in and a little of your history, and give you space to talk through what’s on your mind now — at whatever pace feels comfortable. Nothing to prepare; the first session is where you start figuring out the shape of the work together.
That’s what our client care coordinators help with — they’ll listen to what you’re looking for and suggest a therapist who fits. And if it’s not quite right, it’s completely okay to try someone else.
Sessions for individual therapy at our Cambridge office are $170, and many extended health plans cover therapy. It’s worth checking your coverage.
It varies. Some people come for a few sessions around a specific issue; others value longer-term support. There’s no set number — you and your therapist will check in on what’s working and adjust.
Reaching out doesn’t have to be a big step. A short conversation with one of our client care coordinators is enough to get started — they’ll listen to what you’re looking for and match you with the right therapist for you.
